Before any work begins for a new Tucson client, we run a 14-step audit on their Google Business Profile. This is the audit. Run it on yours.
1. Categorization
Primary category match: does it exactly match your highest-intent search? Secondary categories: are you using all 9 available slots?
2. Service area definition
Are your service areas specific Tucson neighborhoods, or just “Tucson”? Specific beats generic.
3. Business description
750-character description that uses your top 3 keywords naturally. Most Tucson businesses have placeholder descriptions or none at all.
4. Services list
Every service you offer, listed individually. Each service is its own discoverable surface.
5. Products list
Even for service businesses — list “products” (your service packages) for additional SERP real estate.
6. Photo cadence
Recent photos (within last 30 days). Google tracks photo recency as an activity signal.
7. Post cadence
At least one GBP post per week. Posts decay after 7 days; consistent cadence signals an active business.
8. Hours accuracy
Including special hours for holidays. Misaligned hours create trust issues.
9. Q&A section
Pre-seed with the 10 questions Tucson customers actually ask, then answer them. Don’t leave the Q&A empty.
10. Review count + velocity
Aim for 5+ new reviews per month minimum. Velocity matters more than total count.
11. Review response rate
100% response rate. Every review, positive or negative, gets a substantive response.
12. Attributes
Use every relevant attribute (wheelchair accessible, free Wi-Fi, by appointment only, etc.). Each attribute is a filtering criterion.
13. Booking / messaging enabled
If you can take bookings or messages through GBP, enable both. Reduces friction.
14. Insights review
Monthly review of GBP Insights to understand actual search queries driving visibility.
